Lecce is a city in Apulia which is sometimes called "Southern Florence" for its architectural beauty. The historical center and the central square in particular are dominated by baroque style, though most of buildings are made of local stone and this contributes to Lecce%27s orderliness. Here you can meet buildings from the ancient Greek times, as well as Roman, Medieval and Spanish ones. Amphitheater and theater, located in the center, remained from the Roman domination. Lecce is also famous for its churches and palaces, it is worth mentioning the palace Palazzo dei Celestini and basilica di Santa Croce. Indeed in Lecce you can meet many fortifications: towers, rests of the walls and the castle. Many different festivals are held in this beautiful city, for example, la festa di Sant%27Oronzo dedicated to patron of Lecce that is held between 25 and 26 August.
