TURIN
Description:
Turin was the first capital of Italy from 1861 to 1865. The city was founded by the Celts but later became a fortress of the Roman Empire. Today it is one of the most important touristic, scientific, industrial and university centers of Italy. Turin is a special city differing from other Italian cities; here the aristocratic spirit reigns, the Italian royal family originated from here; old shops are numerous in the narrow streets while enormous palaces impress with their dimensions. The night panorama if Turin impresses even more. Mole-Antonelliana, a symbol of the city, presents an experimental tower, built in 19th century 167 of meters high. Today there is an interesting museum if cinematography inside. A beautiful royal palace of Savoyard dynasty was recognized a part of UNESCO%27s world patrimony together with two other palaces of this dynasty. Palazzo Madama is an example of Turin%27s elegance. Monte dei Capuccini is a hill from where one can see a perfect panorama on the city immersed in the Alps. Turin is a royal city!
Climate
Turin lies in a zone of subcontinental climate with cold dry winters and hot stuffy summers (for there is no wind). In summers temperature does not fall below 22 degrees. In winters the Alp%27s influence is felt here.Transport
The Turin%27s Sandro Pertini international airport is situated 15 km from the city. From the airport one can get to Turin by bus or train. There are three main railway stations in the city: Porta Nuova, Porta Susa, Lingotto FC. In Turin bus and tram lines function and specially for the Olympic Games of 2006 a new modern subway was opened.
