Copenhagen is the Denmark%27s largest city and its capital. The city%27s name comes from the old Danish phrase meaning in translation, "trader harbor." The city is located on the islands of Amager and Zealand. In 2011, Copenhagen was reckoned one of the three best cities in the world according to the British magazine Monocle. The main pride of Copenhagen is the medieval palaces and castles. It is not a surprise, because Denmark was and remains a constitutional monarchy. Fredensborg and Bernstorff, the royal residence, are located in the vicinity of Copenhagen, and the winter residence Amalienborg - in Copenhagen itself. The architecture of the buildings of Exchange, Town Hall, Art Museum and the University is also notable. There are stored in the Danish National Gallery the works of ancient and contemporary art, Danish and other European authors. The basis of the museum was the collection of paintings belonging to King Christian IV. This gallery is not the only museum of the city, no less known are the museum of Thorvaldsen, the National Museum Ordrupgard and the Louis Tussaud%27s Wax Museum. The pride of Copenhagen is the world-famous amusement park Tivoli and the city%27s symbol - the monument to Little Mermaid, the favorite heroine of the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

Climate

The climate in Copenhagen is mild enough, the average temperature in summer reaches 17 Celcius degrees, in winter drops to 2 Celcius degrees. Throughout the year, there falls the same amount of precipitation.

Transport

There are two international airports Roskilde and Karstrup in Copenhagen. There is an underground, many lines of buses and a good developed network of local railway service in the city. Also there is a port, wherefrom the regular passenger ships depart to Norway, Russia and other countries.
