Description:
Granada – place, where Arabic and Christian cultures are mixed, is one of the oldest and magnificent Spanish cities. Actually Granada existed even in 500 B.C. as Ibero-Celtic settlement , then under the Ancient Romans had become "Illiberis", later was conquered by Visigoths and in 711 occupied by Moors - all of these historical periods represented at its architectural image. The main of these emblematic monuments are Alhambra, a palace and fortress complex constructed during the mid 14th century by Moors, Albaicín, city district, that retains the essential architecture and planning of its Medieval muscleman past, a gipsy district Sacromonte. Moreover Federico Garcia Lorca was born in Granada. Granada is well-known for its local holidays, such as Festival of the Reconques (2.01), Festival of Crosses (03.05), Corpus Cristi Fair. In the city surroundings there are 5 enormous Natural Parks, where are maintained local flora and fauna.
Climate
Granada is situated between Sierra Nevada mountains and the plain, 70 km from Mediterranean coast, thanks to this it is possible go mountain skiing and swimming in the sea at the same time. Granada has a Continental climate, due to this summer there is extremely hot and humid (day temperature is above 40 C), however in winter and early spring the weather is sunny and warm. Rains, start in September or at the beginning of October, last about 2 days.Transport
Federico García Lorca Airport is located in the town of Chauchina, 18 km from Granada. There are taxies (about 20 euro) and public transport (3.00 euro). All the buses to the airport stop at following stations - La Caleta, Gran Vía, Fuente de las Batallas y Palacio de Congresos. From the Central Bus Station at Carretera de Jaén buses run to Sevilla, Malaga, Haen.
