Description:
Santiago de Compostela is a capital of Autonomous Community of Galicia, which refers to Province of La Coruña. The city is an important pilgrimage centre and the final point of famous Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago – esp.), designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The official languages are both Spanish (castellan) and Galician. The most attractive place is certainly The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, built to honor St. James in 1075. Other remarkable places of interest are Hospital de los Reyes Católicos, constructed in 15th century, the Galician culture museum (Museo del Pueblo Gallego), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Galicia. The province of La Coruña is well-known for its cuisine and particularly confectionery – visiting Santiago de Compostela, it’s time to enjoy a cake of Santiago. Day of Santiago, an important date for all Catholics, is celebrated 25 of July every 6-5-6-11 years.
