VALENCIA
Description:
Valencia is situated on the west coast of Iberian Peninsula, it is the third largest Spanish city and the capital of the same-named autonomous community. The Valencia’s history began in 138 year b.c. when Romans built a city by the river Turia instead of Greek and cartages settlements. Valencia is famous for its festivals and local holidays, celebrated with national chlorite and magnificence. One of them - Fallas, week-long celebration, when people burn big papier-mâché puppets, represented human’s sins, and every day there are fireworks, parades and corridas. Another well-known festival is Tomatina, an annual tomato fight held at the streets of the nearby town of Buñol. There are two official languages in Valencia – Spanish (Castilian) and Valencian, which is very similar to Catalan. Paella, the most famous dish in Spanish cuisine, a simmered rice that includes seafood or meat, is in fact from Valencia.
Climate
The climate in Valencia is Mediterranean; in January, the coldest month, temperature is about 10-18 C, the highest temperature is usually in august – 28-35 C.Transport
Transport: In Valencia You can purchase a special Valencia Tourist Card, which offers discounts at the big shopping centers, free entrance to the museums and unlimited trips on public transport during chosen period of time (24, 36, 72 hrs). Airport of Valencia is located 8 km west from the city – you can get there by metro (journey time is about 25 minutes), by bus from the city centre or by taxi. Valencia’s metro has 6 lines, two of them connect airport, city centre and sea port.
