Description:
A small port in the south of Portugal with a population of about 40.000 people. The town can boast of a rich history: the territory of Albufeira was settled by Romans, long time ago it was a major seaport, it was invaded several times and burnt in 1830. All these events couldn’t help but influenced on its development: fallen into decay, Albufeira could completely recover only by the middle of the 20thcentury thanks to the increasing numbers of tourists and changed from a quiet fishing village into a popular seaside resort. Albufeira’s main wealth is its beaches, the most well-known of which are: Praia de d%27Agua, Praia de Balaia, Praia de Maria Luisa, Praia de Falesia, Praia de Castelo, Praia de Sao Rafael, Praia de Gale. In the evenings life here becomes active: all sorts of cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs offer many leisure options, starting with national cuisine and finishing with live music dancing. The local food must-haves include: meat mix Cozido à portuguesa, captain Vidal%27s codfish soup, Portuguese steak cooked in a wine sauce, stew of beans, rice and beef Feijoada, and, of course, the famous Hamon, a jerked pork ham.
Climate
One can get to Albufeira by plane. Yet there’s no airport right in town, the nearest one is situated 26 km from the town in Faro. One can also sail to Albufeira on a yacht, there’s a yacht park. To get around the town one can use a car, taxi or a bus – the city has a well-developed public transport system.Transport
Subtropical with moderate rainfall and maximum of sun days a year. July and august are the hottest months, yet the heat is partially compensated by the ocean breezes. January receives the heaviest rainfall and is the coolest month. Autumn is considered the ideal time for travel to Albufeira.
