Description:
Porto is the second most populous city in the north of Portugal, a major industrial and trade centre. The city is located in the Douro valley, it is here that the world famous wine got its name, with port produced only from the local sweet grapes being considered as the only authentic one. Porto dwellers are also proud of the city’s rich history. Many historic buildings and monuments are concentrated in the area of the Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) that was founded almost as early as the city itself. The city abounds with various churches and cathedrals, the most interesting of them are: Igreja de Sao Francisco, Igreja dos Congregados, Igreja de Sao Martinho de Cedofeita, Igreja da Misericordia, Igreja da Santa Clara, Igreja do Carmo, Igreja dos Clerigos. The list of oher must-see sights includes: Porto City Hall, the 240-metre-high tower Torre dos Clérigos, Stock Exchange Palace Palacio da Bolsa, Bishop’s Palace, Liberty or Freedom Square Praça da Liberdade. When the weather is unfavourable for excursions, one can visit local museums. TheNational Museum Soares dos Reis, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, the Tram Museum, and, of course, The Port Wine Museum won’t leave even the most sophisticated indifferent.

Mediterranean. Summers are usually warm, with temperature seldom exceeding 25°C. Winters are rainy, temperature usually fluctuates around 13-16°C. Months from October to March receive heavy rainfall. July and August have maximum of sun hours per day.Transport
In 15 km from the city there is Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport. It operates both domestic (Lisbon, Funchal, Ponta Delgada, etc.) and international flights (Barcelona, London, Paris, Geneva, Brussels, Luxemburg, etc). One can get around the city by bus, tram, taxi or metro – 6 lines are now active.
