Description:

A municipality and one of the top tourist destinations in the southern Portuguese region Algarve. Each year it attracts tourists thanks to its beautiful nature: wonderful beaches situated in the closest vicinity with Gibraltar and thousands of forest and field hectares leave no one indifferent. Vilamoura has a rich history. There are well preserved ruins of Roman baths and villa. Other interesting object of its past can be seen in the History Museum. Yet despite of this Vilamoura is incredibly modern: all kinds of hotels co-exist here with luxury villas, there is a casino, an aerodrome and a yacht club. Apart from passive rest on wo golden beaches, one can go in for all the sports popular with high society: tennis, squash, golf, equestrian sport, diving, etc. In the evening one can walk along Marina, the harbor where yachts are located, and try local cuisine in one of its numerous cafes and restaurants.

Climate

Subtropical Mediterranean, with maximum of sunshine-per-day days and moderate rainfall. The heat of summer months is usually balanced with ocean breezes. July and August get the maximal temperature, January is the coolest month. Winter months receive the heaviest rainfall.

Transport

Vilamoura has no airport so one can get here by bus shuttle or taxi from the nearby situated airports. Those who plan to travel here by plan have 2 options: the first option is Faro Airport that is located in 20 km from Vilamoura yet the choice of destinations is limited here. The second option is Lisbon Airport that is located in 270 km from Vilamoura. One can also get here by sea, there is a yacht park that can host up to 1000 yachts. One can also travel here by bus or train from other Portuguese cities, the railway station is in 5 km from Vilamoura.
