Description:
Zell am See is one of the most idyllic mountain resorts in the northern Alps and it is an absolute paradise for skiing and hiking. It lies at an altitude of 758M and it is located at the foot of the 2 most beautiful valleys, the Kaprun and the Glemm valley. The surrounding snow-capped mountains are reflected in the lake and contribute to the magic of this place. The Hohe Tauern massif with its 20km-long valley offers some of the most spectacular landscape in the area, but the Steinernes Meer and the Grasberge are also not to be missed. Zell am See attracts many outdoor activities fan and, beside hiking, Zell am See offers water-sport activities, golf courses nearby, well-marked cyclists paths and mountain bike routes, tennis courts, paragliding, canyoning and riding facilities. With 40 different sports that can be performed in the area, there is no room for boredom in Zell am See including lively nightlife! The old town’s narrow streets, the Rosenberg Castle and the ancient Catholic St. Hippolyte’s Church are also worth a visit.
Climate
Zell am See has a climate of extremes. In the summer it can be very hot and it is ideal for water sport activities. Come late autumn, the snow starts to fall on the mountain peaks. In the winter, the temperature is often below zero.Transport
The nearest airport is in Salzburg (85 km away). The next nearest airports are those of Innsbruck and Munich with a 2 and 3 hours trip respectively. A shuttle bus leaves the Salzburg airport every 10 minutes to Salzburg station and from then on there are trains running hourly to the centre of Zell am See. There is also a bus line.
