Description:
This picturesque Austrian city located on the border to Germany is on the banks of the Salzach River. Salzburg is associated with music and especially with its most famous son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart whose memory is very present everywhere in the city. Salzburg%27s famous yearly music Festival is an homage to this great composer. The historical center of the city of Salzburg is on the world heritage list of UNESCO. The Salzburg Cathedral, The Hohensalzburg Castle, Mozart%27s places, Mechanical theater all contribute to its baroque appearance. You will discover a city full of domes, bell towers, churches and palaces, charming narrow streets and squares. The great Gothic art you will find is thanks to the work of Italian architects Vincenzo Scamozzi and Santini Solari. The Alps offer great background scenery and the lakes of the Salzkammergut region for great outdoor activities are very close by.

The W. A. Mozart Salzburg Airport is the second largest in Austria and is located only 4 km away from the city center. The city has good rail connections to and from most European cities and good highway connections. The best way to circulate around the city is with the Obus and the bus network. Salzburg also has high-speed electric trains, the S-Bahn. The historical part of the city and the Hohensalzburg Castle are connected by a funicular.
