PARNU
Description:
Pärnu, a port city in southwestern Estonia, is a major resort city in the country. In the early XIX century, the city began to build the first boarding houses. Even then, tourists are attracted by the mild climate and beautiful sandy beach in the north of the Gulf of Riga. After the acquisition of independence, the town resort status was compromised - the Soviet sanatorium system collapsed and the resorts went to the local authorities, but despite this, the city has not still lost its attraction for tourists. Fans of the outdoor activities will also not get bored. The city has a museum, an art gallery and a theater and even a museum of modern art, named after Charlie Chaplin. The city has several Orthodox churches, among them - Catherine Church and the Church of Elizabeth, and many fortification remnants, which was defending the city in the past. Most of them were eliminated in the XIX century, it was decided to keep the ramparts (Valikyaer), two bastions and the Tallinn gate, which is one of the symbols of the city.
