Description:

Avignon is one of the most interesting cities in the French Provence, located on the left bank of the river Rhone. During the fall of the Roman Empire, the Popes chose this place as a temporary residence, presenting the city many unique buildings, such as the Papal Palace. Avignon is one of the few cities that fully preserved central fortress which was built in the 14 century and now constitute the bulk of the residential city. Together with the Papal palace, the center strikes by the beauty of the episcopal complex, amazing buildings on a rock Rock-de-Dome, the famous Avignon Bridge. Annually the Avignon theater festival is held in the city, underlining the great cultural value of this site.
