Description:

Carcassonne is fortress city on the southern tip of France in the 80 km. from Toulouse, divided architecturally into old and new parts. Old Town is situated on a rocky hill and surrounded by two stone walls built in different centuries. The upper part of the city, Cité, is separated from the lower one, Bastide (which means "fortress"), by a Trivale quarter, where traffic is prohibited. Carcassonne, a unique monument of medieval architecture that inspired even Walt Disney; inside the old town tourists can watch jousting tournaments and a museum of medieval torture. Certainly pleasant will be a walk on a barge along the South Channel, a unique monument of engineering, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Climate

Carcassonne has a Mediterranean climate. The summers are hot and dry, while winters are mild with little snow and average temperatures in January about 7 ° C.

Transport

City is served by the Carcassonne Airport,which organizes flights to Brussels, Porto, as well as to cities of England and Ireland. The railway station at Carcassonne is located on the Route Bordeaux-Sète and links Carcassonne with other French cities. Inside the city only the pedestrian traffic is available.
