Lyon is a wonderful city in the south east of France where 2 major rivers meet, the Rhone and the Saone. It is on this exceptional site that this Gallic city called Lugdunum or Lyon was built. This city has a rich history and the remains of its gallic-roman empire, Italian renaissance quarters, classic buildings can be found in its agglomerations but Lyon is also a modern international city where the art of good living is best reflected in its world-famous gastronomy. Each stage of the city%27s history is reflected in his appearance; guests will be able to see Roman amphitheatres, magnificent palaces of the Renaissance and modern skyscrapers. The active old Lyon consists of the Saint-Jean, Saint-Paul and Saint-Georges quarters with its magnificent old residences. Lyon has many interesting museums and to name a few, there is the Musée des Beaux-Arts completely renovated and hosting an important collection of paintings and sculptures, the Musée des Tissus with its collection French, European and oriental pieces and the Musée de l’Imprimerie highlighting the printing history. The Rue St-Jean is the main street in the old Lyon and has an imposing number of well preserved ancient residences. To get a great view of the surroundings, the best place to visit is the Observatory of the Basilique (287 steps) where you will get a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and the Mont Blanc on a a clear day.

There are two airports in Lyon - Saint-Exupery airport and business aviation airport Lyon-Bron. The city can also be reached by train from Paris or Geneva. Public transport consists mainly of the Metro (37 stations and 4 lines), trolleybuses, buses and trams. Cost per trip is 1,6 € for all modes of transport and € 4.50 for day ticket. A visit to Lyon railway station is worth mentioning as it has a unique architecture.
