ASCONA

Description:

Ascona is a village in Switzerland in Ticina canton. Ascona is situated on the Lake Maggiore shore not far from the border with Italy. Official language here is Italian. In the eighties there opened an automobile tunnel to free the historic center from transport. Every summer Ascona holds New Orlean jazz festival (JazzAscona-Festival). Main landmarks are Santi Pietro e Paolo cathedral (XVII century), Santa Maria della Misericordia church (XVI century), apostolic college (Collegio Papio, 1602) and ruins of the San Materno castle.

Cars are not allowed in the historic center of the town so you will have to explore it on foot.
