Basel University is the oldest in the country, city itself is one of industrial centers of Switzerland. Basel was found by Romans and in 1501 it joined confederation. Basel has plenty of cultural attractions, for example, Munster, Elisabethenkirche and Town Hall. Also visit the market on the Marktplatz Square. Basel Zoo and its museums provide particular interest. City has its own variant of carnival - Basler Fasnacht, it won’t leave you indifferent.

The nearest airport is Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, it is situated on the French border. Basel has two railway stations: Basel SBB and Basel Badischer Bahnhof. In summer you can take a river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. Also you can catch a tram, cross the French border and come back.
