Description:

Interlaken is the city in Bern canton in Switzerland. Interlaken is one of the oldest resorts n the country and one of the most popular for today. It is situated between Brienz Lake and Thun Lake and Aare River (left tributary of Rhine) crosses the city. From its location city receive the name, in translation from Latin inter lacus means “between lakes”. Interlaken is convenient point to explore surrounding area. Fro example, there is Jungfrau Mountain (height is 4158 m)and Jungfraubahn railway station (the most alpine station in the world). Also not far from the mountain you can find observation ground, the Sphinx cliff and alpine meteorological station. Be sure, that all these attractions won’t leave you indifferent. UNESCO obviously had the reason to include this sight into World Heritage list. In September Interlaken holds Jungfrau Marathon.

Climate

Because of its alpine location Interlaken has quite cold weather. In winter temperature fall to -18C, in summer it is about 19C. Sun is shining and views are stunning.

Transport

You can reach Interlaken by train from Bern, Geneva, Zurich, Basel, and Lucerne. It is also connected with Italy and Valais canton via Spiez. There are two railway stations in Interlaken: Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West. Also you can reach it by bus from big Switzerland cities.
