LUCERNE

Description:

Lucerne is the capital of the same name canton, situated in the central part of Switzerland on picturesque lake shore and surrounded by high Pilatus and Rigi mountains. Lucerne history counts more than 1300 years. City is crossed by Reuss river, several bridges are thrown across it. Among them is the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) and it is real unique masterpiece. On the bridge there is Water tower of XIII century, bridge and Tower are symbols of Lucerne. In the historic center there are wooden buildings and in the outskirts – remains of old fortifications with towers. Be sure to have a glance at Lucerne Lion sculpture, visit Transportation Museum, Lucerne Art Gallery and Wagner Museum, climb Pilatus Mountain. Lucerne holds its own carnival Fasnacht.

Climate

Climate is continental, the best time to visit Lucerne is from July to August, in this period weather is most comfortable, and temperature can reach 26C. In winter temperature is about 0C but lower in mountains.

Transport

The nearest airport is in Zurich. You can reach Lucerne from any part of Europe if only you have the change. You can take bus or car from Geneva and Zurich.
