ZERMATT

Description:

Zermatt is a village in the German part of Valais canton in Switzerland. This place is famous as alpine ski resort, one of the best in Switzerland Alps. Om the panorama of Zermatt dominates the Matterhorn mountain (Matterhorn in German, Monte Cervino in Italian, Mont Cervin in French). This mountain was one of the last subjugated by alpinists and is the fame of Zermatt. The history of the first ascent with tragic end is reflected in the Matterhorn Museum. Ski lifts and funiculars take sportsmen in mountains, in summer for climbing and hiking, in winter for skiing and snow boarding.

Climate

Zermatt is situated on the height of 5000 m above sea level. Weather is cold with heavy snow during winter time. The coldest period is from October to April (average temperature is -8C).

Transport

To avoid air pollution people in Zermatt don’t use internal-combustion engines. All transport is electric and quiet. You can reach Zermatt by railroad from nearby city Täsch. Also trains to Zermatt run from Visp, Brig and St. Moritz.
