CANTERBURY
Description:
Canterbury is an old English city situated in the county of Kent. Canterbury Cathedral is world known as archbishop Tomas Becket was killed there in 1170 and from that time the cathedral became a pilgrimage center for Christians from all parts of the country. In XIV century Geoffrey Chaucer immortalized these pilgrimages in his famous poem. Besides the splendid cathedral Canterbury has many other old structures: city walls dated back to roman times, St Augustine abbey ruins, Norman castle, St Martina church, and also probably one of the first schools in England. Newer structures are Kent University buildings, theatre and Canterbury Christ Church University. Canterbury streets are full of interesting museums, modern art objects, stalls with local fast food and many other pleasantness.
Climate
Climate is temperate maritime as anywhere in Great Britain. Summer is cool (no more than 15 days in July temperature reaches 25C) and winter is mild (light frosts occur no more than 50 nights a year). Precipitations are relatively small.Transport
