Carlisle is a small town in England in Cumbria that is situated on the northern part of the Lake District, 15 km away from Scotland border. Two main landmarks of Carlisle are the cathedral and well preserved castle. Carlisle Cathedral was found in 1112 and the castle was constructed in 1093 to protect border lands. In the Tullie House Museum you can explore perfect exposition devoted to the border life. From Carlisle it is easy to reach some parts of Hadrian’s Wall that defended these lands from Celtic raids. Not only architectural gourmands will love Carlisle. There are at once four restaurants awarded with 1 Michelin star and in addition plenty of microbreweries. Every August Carlisle holds the Food Festival, where you can taste local specialties like Cumberland sausages, sauces and mustard.
