Description:
Londonderry (or Derry – there are historical an political disagreements that are nor solved yet) is the second populated city in Northern Ireland. In 2013 it will become the first UK City of Culture. Foyle River divides Derry into two parts and the western one contains most attractions. There are XVI century city walls preserved better that anywhere in Europe (the city stood the siege for several times but the walls weren’t damaged). Inside the walls is St Columb’s Cathedral and other stunning architecture. Definitely worth a visit Tower Museum and Bogside area. The major part of Derry’s population are young people from 20 to 30 and accordingly entertainment sector is formed: there are plenty of clothes shops, bars, clubs and stages where Irish folk dances are performed.
Climate
Climate is temperate maritime. Winter is mild (only 27 days a year bring airfrost) and summer is cool (temperatures above 20C are uncommon). The sunniest and the driest period is from April to September.Transport
Londonderry is served by City of Derry Airport (there are Ryanair flights to Alikante, Faro, Londond and more). Bigger airports are in Belfast (100 km) and Dublin (230 km). There is a train to Belfast (2 hours), buses run to many cities of the island. All overland journeys are accompanied by wonderful views.
