LEICESTER

Description:

Leicester is a city and unitary authority area in the East Midlands area of England. It is also the county town of Leicestershire. The city lies on the River Soar and at the edge of the National Forest.The name "Leicester" is thought to derive from the words castra of the "Ligore", meaning a camp on the River Legro, an early name for the River Soar. There are two main shopping centres in Leicester – the Haymarket Centre and Highcross Leicester. Leicester Market is the largest outdoor covered marketplace in Europe and selling fruit, vegetables, fresh fish and meat. Every year during the summer the Leicester City Council hold cultural festivals here.

Leicester experiences a maritime climate type with mild winters and cool summers, rain spread throughout the year, and low sunshine levels. In winter temperature 2°C, in summer 19°C.
