SALISBURY
Description:
Salisbury is a small and very old town in Wiltshire County, known first of all for its cathedral. Salisbury Cathedral is an outstanding example of Early English architecture and considered to be one of the top attractions in the whole country. It was constructed in the 13th century and has the tallest spire in England (123 m). If you are not scared you can climb up the tower and watch beautiful neighborhoods. Historic district called Old Sarum keeps great atmosphere of a small medieval town. Also Salisbury has modern areas with shops and restaurants, a local historic museum definitely worth a visit. Perhaps, Salisbury is the best place from which you can go to Stonehenge. Also there is a bus (#68, not tourist), that runs to Winchester through several towns with cathedrals (the whole journey takes only 1,5 hour).
Climate
Climate is oceanic. Summer is cool (average July temperature is from 12C to 22C) and winter is very mild (Average January temperature is 2-7C). The most precipitation occurs from October to January).Transport
There are buses and trains to many big airports of the country (London is only 150 km away, Bristol is 90 km, Southampton and Bournemouth are 40 km). You can take a bus to Stonehenge (15 km). Salisbury itself can be easily explored on foot or on a bicycle.
