TELFORD

Description:

Telford is a big modern city in England with the population of about 160 thousand people. It was founded in 1960 on the base of unification of several small towns and villages and named after famous engineer Tomas Telford. The main attraction here is Ironbridge Gorge that is in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. Wrekin heights (about 8 km from city center) are no less popular as there are perfect views and parts of Bronze Age fortifications. Besides Telford has roman ruins, medieval markets, Victorian industrial buildings and contemporary architecture examples.

Climate

Climate is temperate maritime. Winter is very mild, average January temperature is 4-8C, but strong arctic wind is a common thing. Summer is warm, in August temperature usually doesn’t raise above 22C. Snow is rare, rains are light.

Transport

There are trains from Ayr to London, Birmingham (50 km), Shrewsbury (20 km), and buses that run to many cities in the area.
