Description:
Whitby is a picturesque and cozy town in North Yorkshire County with the population of about 15 thousand people. Whitby lays on the east coast on the mouth of Esk River and offers breathtaking views from everywhere. The town was found in 656 when the Whibty abbey was laid. Ruins of the abbey and 199 steps that lead here are the main attractions of the town. A stroll along sea coast, framed with old lighthouses, will amaze and inspire you. Among other attractions: James Cook monument, whalebone arch, Saint Mary Church and streets of the town. Not only lovers of old architecture and landscapes come to Whitby but also the owners of surfs and yachts as there are perfect beaches and sceneries. Mysterious atmosphere of the town inspired Bram Stoker to write his novel ‘Dracula’. Also the town was visited by Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll and Wilkie Collins. Leaving the town don’t forget to by glass duck to get some luck.

Summer is warm and the winter is mild. Weather conditions are very changeable. In July usual temperature is 20C, in January it doesn’t fall under -3C. The most precipitation occurs from November to March and the beginning of the summer is cloudy and misty.Transport
In spite of the fact that Whitby is situated in some distance, it is well connected with big cities by bus and railway communication. There are not many direct routes but having a transfer you can easily reach any part of the country. Durham Tees Valley Airport is the nearest (70 km). Whatever you choose – car, bus or train – the journey with beautiful views will be unforgettable.
