OTTAWA
Description:
Ottawa is the capital of Canada and the forth populated city in the country. Ottawa is situated on the banks of the same name river in the east of Ontario province. Together with Gatineau city (Quebec) on the opposite site of the river Ottawa forms so called National capital region. Ottawa was found in 1826 and was named Baytown (present name was given in 1855). The name of the city comes from Algonquin language and means “to trade”. Because of numerous public institutions in Ottawa architecture here is mainly simple and functional, but in the same time there are some buildings in Gothic revival style (for example, grand Parliament house). Unlike other cities of the country Ottawa doesn’t have many skyscrapers because of height control in building. The idea of authorities was that Parliament would be seen from all parts of the city. Also visit ByWard Market and Golden Triangle that considered to be the man landmarks of Ottawa.
Climate
Climate in Ottawa is warm continental with all four seasons of the year. Summer is warm and wet, winter is cold with snow and ice. Summer and autumn weather is changeable and unpredictable.Transport
The main public transport in Ottawa is bus. Also there are light electric trains. Near Ottawa there are several airports: Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport, Ottawa/Carp Airport. Ottawa also has its own railway and bus stations.
