Description:
Fairbanks is the second-large city in Alaska with the population of about 35 thousand people. There situated the oldest in Alaska University with adjacent Museum with delightful exhibitions about history, culture and nature of the land. Fairbanks offers various excursions including the cruise on a Chena River with stops in Chena Indian Village and Athabascan fishing village, introduction into the daily life of the gold mine, tour around the city center and many others. Pioneer Park is definitely worth visiting because of its numerous sights such as aviators museum, a native village, a mine, golf course, old sternwheeler and others. During the period from September to April in cold clear nights you can watch marvelous Northern Lights. Denali National Park which is 1,5 hour drive from the city is situated in the tundra around McKinley Mountain and has a glacier and many species of wild animals including moose, grizzly and caribou. About 100 km away from the Fairbanks is Chena Hot Springs Resort.
Climate
Climate is subarctic. Winter is long and cold, it lasts from late September to early May. From October to January there are a lot of snowfalls. Temperature is about -30C but sometimes can drop to -50C. Summer is short and warm with average temperature of 18C.Transport
Fairbanks is a transportation hub of Alaska. It has developed railroad, air and bus connection. Fairbanks International Airport provides flights to Vancouver, Anchorage, Seattle, Barrow, Denver and other cities. You can get to Anchorage by train but the journey on a car could be reallu breath-taking although long.
