City under the specific name "Marathon", Florida is located in the county of Monroe. According to the latest population "Marathon" has approximately 10 255 inhabitants. There is an interesting story about the creation of the name of the city. It is believed that when working hard day and night to build the railway, one of labouring man said that their work is like a real marathon. And that name stuck out of town. Nevertheless, the city is fairly young, and it refers to the date of registration in 1999. In 2000, English was the native language for 78.10% of citizens of the city and the proportion of Spanish as a native language was 20.95%.
