The population of Elizabethtown according to 2010 census was 28 531 people, making this city the eleventh largest city in the state. The town was named in honor of Colonel John Hardin, an Indian fighter, who was killed by Native Americans because of a truce with the tribes who lived in Ohio. Also Elizabethtown, Ky. is a district administrative center in Hardin, Kentucky. It is situated 39 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky. The foundation of the city refers to 1779, when the first settlers came to this territory. Important to say that Captain Thomas Helm, Colonel Andrew Hines and Colonel Samuel Heykreft, who, in turn, were the first inhabitants of Elizabethtown built a fortress from the shelters to protect themselves from Native Americans on this area.
