ALEXANDRIA
Description:
Alexandria is situated on the south shore of the Red river and its location is almost in the geographical center of the state. It is a town in County Rapides, Louisiana. Besides, Alexandria- is the main city of the metropolitan area Rapides, and Grant (the total number of people living in the area is about 154 000 people). The nearby city of this town is Pineville. In 2010 the population of Alexandria was equal to 47 723 according to official population estimates, which are held, in turn, by Technical University of Louisiana. Originally, this area was the home of a community that has supported the action by the Spanish outposts du Rapida. The first organized settlement appeared in 1785, when business man from Pennsylvania named Alexander Fulton received a land grant from Spain. In addition, the name to this city was given in honour of the daughter of Fulton. Thus, as the city of Alexandria was registered in 1818.
Climate
The type of the climate on this area is humid subtropical with some continental influence, which, in turn, is especially pronounced in winter. Summer in the city is hot and humid, and winters are mild with occasional cold snap. The area receives plentiful rainfall throughout the year, snow is rare, but, nevertheless, sometimes happens. Tropical storms and hurricanes occasionally affect Alexandria, but rarely cause serious damage, unlike areas closer to the coast.
