Description:
Hagerstown is a city in Maryland at the foot of Appalachian Mountains with the population of about 40 thousand people. It was founded by immigrants from Germany in the middle of 18th century. Hagerstown neighborhoods are rich with deposits of special limestone that is the material for numerous old buildings in the city like St. John Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church and other houses and structures. Near Hagerstown there are also several historical places connected with important events of the Civil War. All of them are no more than 30 minutes drive from the city. Hagerstown is attractive not only because of its distinctive architecture, interesting museums and big shops but also because of its diverse nature that allow people who love outdoor recreation to ride a bicycle, ski, fish, hunt and raft here. In addition, during May and June a big blues festival is held.
Climate
Climate combines features of both humid subtropical and humid continental zones. Summer is hot and humid with average July temperature of 25C. Winter is quite cold. In January temperature is -5C. The most precipitation occurs in May and June.Transport
Hagerstown has a small airport that provides regular flights to Orlando and Washington. Big airports of Washington and Harrisburg are not very far. It is easy to walk around the city center on foot, also public transportation network is well developed.
