LAS CRUCES

Description:

Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico with its population of about 100 thousand people. It is situated not far from Rio Grand and surrounded by mountains. In the end of the April the city organizes a Book fair and in September a huge enchilada is made there and the process is accompanied by dances, parades, music and athletic events. Las cruces is home for several interesting museums and New Mexico University. Only a few miles away there is a small town Mesilla that avoided industrialization and preserved its historical appearance. In addition, you can buy Indian hand-made gifts and arts in Mesilla.

Climate

Climate is arid subtropical. Winter is cool and windy with warm and sunny days in the middle of the season. In springs sometimes dust thunders occur. Summer is very hot with temperatures sometimes over 40C and thunderstorms. Summer is considered to be the wettest period of the year.

Transport

The nearest airport is in El Paso. In Las Cruces there is a railway station and public transportation network.
