MAUMEE
Description:
Maumee is a city in Ohio on the river Maumee near Erie Lake with the population of about 15 thousand people. It was founded in the beginning of 19th century and the construction of a canal designated great future: vessels called at the port and favored the brisk trade. But Maumee didn’t turn into a flourishing city and the reason was that big and heavy vessels could not navigate up the river and moreover cheap and fast railroad was invented. Discovery of gas deposits shook the sleepy city for a while but this didn’t last long. However today Maumee is quite a big economic center of its region and gives many jobs. A lot of old houses and buildings have preserved there, wide streets and umbrageous alleys keep the charming atmosphere of a provincial town. Near Maumee there are plenty of parks and nature reserves.
