SALEM
Description:
Salem is the capital city of Oregon with the population of about 155 thousand people. This is a beautiful and unusual city. Its streets are planted with cherry trees and its hospital was the place where the film One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest was made. Salem is home for Willamette University, various parks (including the smallest park that consists of the only one sequoia tree), good historical and archeological museums and excellent wineries (the most famous is Honeywood Winery). Also there is a theater and Opera House and other old buildings. In the sunny day you can go to the top of the City Capitol. Not far from Salem there are popular ski resorts, Pacific Ocean coast, Hood Mount and many other nature amenities. It is known that the nearby city Woodburn is the biggest in USA center of Old Believers (Russian Molokans and the Pentecostals).
Climate
Climate is Mediterranean. Wet season lasts from the end of autumn to the beginning of spring. During that time fog and clouds are common. Winter experiences rare snowfalls. Average July temperature is 25C.Transport
Portland International Airport is only 1 hour drive from Salem. From the railway station you can go to Los Angeles, Seattle and Vancouver. Public transportation network is very developed.
