Cairns is the city in Queensland region in Australia named after William Wellington Cairns who was the governor of this state. Originally Cairns was a transit point for gold diggers that were going deep into the continent, but some time later importance of Cairns in this quality came to naught. Cairns region is the 4th most popular among tourists in Australia after Melbourne, Sidney and Brisbane. Cairns is ideal place to start journey to the Great Barrier Reef or Queensland rain forests.

Climate

Climate in Cairns is tropical monsoon. Rain season with frequent typhoons lasts from November to May. From June to October weather is dry. Average temperatures are 26C in July and 32C in January.

Cairns is important transportation hub in the northern part of Queensland. Cairns International Airport is situated 7 km away from city. Local port has the great significance both in passengers and cargo transportations. Cairns is connected by railroad lines with other cities of the country but the main transport are buses and cars.
