CAMPOS DO JORDAO
Description:
A town in the south-eastern Brazilian state Sao Paolo. The town is founded in 1874, it has a population of about 50.000 thousand people. Its architecture resembles European one, that’s why the town was called Brazilian Switzerland. Campos do Jordao is situated in the Mantiqueira Mountains that influences greatly its climate and makes it more cool. Many rivers and springs start in these mountains and gave them their name which is translated as “Crying” from the language of the Indian tribe Tupi. Campos do Jordao is a popular tourist destination thanks to its architectural heritage and unique natural wealth.
Climate
One can get to Campos do Jordao via narrow-gauge line that is a part of the Rio de Janeiro-Sao Paolo railway. It usually takes 2,5 hours to go here by car or bus from Sao Paolo that is located 180 km from the town.Transport
Tropical, yet it there are no high temperatures as it is situated high above the sea level. Temperatures are unusually lower here than in the rest of Brazil. One need to be ready that in winter (June-August) temperature may go as low as 16°C, and it will fluctuate around 22-23°C during other months. The town receives rainfall from October to March with the heaviest in December and January.
