FORTALEZA
Description:
The capital city of the state in the north-east of Brazil, a city with a rich history and many names. Fortaleza got its 1st name “Schoonenborch” from the Dutch who founded it as a fortress in the middle of the 17th century. Its today’s name also comes from there and means “fortress” in Portuguese. Fortaleza is one of the most well-developed seaside resorts in the region, one can find here any accommodation option from budget hostels to luxury high-class hotels. The number of tourists coming here increases annually thanks to Fortaleza’s great beaches and the special sunny city atmosphere. The coast line extends up to 25 km, the most popular beaches include: Iracema, Meireles, Mucuripe and Praia do Futuro. A good alternative to beach resting may be sightseeing, one can explore the objects of the local colonial architecture: Theatro Jos de Alencar, Catedral Metropolitana, Centro Cultural Drago do Mar, Iracema statue, Ponte dos Ingleses and many other.
