Description:
Municipality of the Brazilian state Parana with a population of a bit more than 300.000 people. Foz do Iguaçú is a young border city, it was founded in 1914 and is surrounded by Argentina and Paraguay. Numerous mineral springs and the famous waterfall of extraordinary beauty gave the name to this city: The Springs of the Big Water, that is how it is translated. The world biggest hydro-electric power station Itaipu is located here, the energy it produces is also used by its co-owner Paraguay. But the main wealth of Foz do Iguaçú is its National Park Iguaçú and 275 waterfalls that cover the territory of 2700 metres. They are protected by the state and are included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Rich nature as well as city’s location determined its fate: it is an important energy supplier, a major international trade centre and one of the world top destinations.
Climate
Subtropical, with distinctive division into dry and cold summer and humid mild winter. Temperature is around 24°C throughout a year. The maximum temperature registered is 40°C, the minimum one is -5°C.Transport
There is Foz do Iguaçu/Cataratas International Airport. One can also get here by car, taxi or bus on BR-277 highway, there is a connection with Paraguay. To get around Foz do Iguacu one can use buses and private minibuses, many tourists and the locals prefer hitchhiking.
