NATAL
Description:
The capital of a state in the north-east of Brazil, a famous seaside resort. It was founded by the Portuguese on the 25th of December 1599, it is them the city owes its name: in Portuguese Natal means “Christmas”. The city has a rich history: for a long time it was ruled by the Portuguese, was conquered by the Dutch, in the 20th century it took part in the World War by serving as an American military base “The Springboard of Victory”. All these events are reflected in Natal’s magnificent architecture, its many buildings and monuments are protected by the state. The most interesting are: Fortaleza dos Reis Magos (it’s her that the city first appeared), Metropolitan Cathedral, St. Anthony’s Parish, the Alberto Maranhão Theatre, Camara Cascudo Museum and Monument. Yet the main sight of Natal is its great beaches: Praia do Meio, Via Costeira, Ponta Negra, Praia do Forte, Praia dos Artistas, Areia Preta, Redinha, Genipabu and many others host thousands of tourists not only from Brazil, but from all over the world annually.
Climate
Tropical. Natal isn’t called the City of Sun in vain: it can boast of more than 250 sunny days a year. The climate is favourable, daytime temperature can reach the maximum of 38°С, which can be compensated by ocean winds. The hottest months are from December till April. Even in winter the nighttime temperatures seldom goes below 19°С.Transport
One can get to Natal by plane: in 18 km from the city there’s Augusto Severo International Airport. It provides service to the whole north-eastern region and soon will share it with Greater Natal International Airport, which is currently under construction. The developed road network lets to get to Natal by car or bus. One can get around the city by bus or taxi, the special “dune buggy” cars are used for driving on beaches.
