Is a municipality in the Rio de Janeiro state with a population of a bit more than 30.000 people. It was founded in 1630 and played an important role as a town on the way to Rio. Precious gems and gold were carried there to be transferred to Portugal. Later when a new bypass road was built the town lost its importance, yet it regained its popularity in the 20th century. In the Indians language the town’s name means the House of Gods. Its rich historic and cultural heritage is reflected in its magnificent architecture and is protected by UNESCO. There are many former colonial sights that are worth visiting, most of them are situated in the transport inaccessible centre. Yet the main town’s wealth is its wonderful beaches. The list of the most popular of them includes Praia do Sono, Paraty Mirim, Praia de Trindade that each year attract thousands of tourists from all over the world.

The local airport doesn’t have a rigid schedule, one can get here from Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo by helicopter or a small plane. One can also get to the town by yacht, by bus – from Rio, or by car – along BR-101 that connects Paraty with Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo.
