Perhaps the first city that comes to mind when Brazil has been mentioned. It is the capital of the same named state, it has a population of 6 million people and is a major cultural centre. Former colonial capital Rio owes its beautiful architecture to its rich historical heritage. But it is not only Rio’s architectural wealth that attracts here thousands of tourists from all over the world. The annual carnival is bright costumes, merry songs and, of course, samba parade that takes place on Sambodromo, which is able to host up to 88.500 people. Carnival is a unique show that unites the rich and the poor, people of all age and religions not only from Brazil but all over the world. Those who are keen on quiet rest may fully appreciate Brazilian climate and enjoy beauty of the local nature in the world’s largest city forest Tijuca. One can also go up the Sugar Head or suntan on one of Rio’s long beaches, for example, Arpoador, Ipanema и Copacabana.

Climate

Typical tropical, favourable, with big number of sunny days even in winter. Temperature is fairly high throughout a year and seldom goes lower than 25°С at daytime. December receives the heaviest rainfall, February is the hottest month.

Transport

There are 3 airports: Galeão Airport is situated in 20 km from the city and hosts international flights, the rest two, that is Santos Dumont Airport and Jacarepaguá-Roberto Marinho Airport host domestic flights. It is comfortable to get around the city by metro.
