Description:
Quito is an economic, political and cultural center of Ecuador, as well as the capital of the country. The city owes his name the ancient Indian tribe. The city is located on the equator at an altitude of nearly three thousand meters above sea level. Quito is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful cities in South America, because of the combination of many cultures and traditions. Hills divide the city into three parts. In the center there is an old colonial city with lots of great museums and monuments. This part of town was one of the first objects in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. In the center of the city there are three major squares: Plaza Sucre, Plaza Bolivar and Plaza Independencia. Also you can see there many churches (San Francisco, San Agustin, La Campagna and Santo Domingo), several temples and secular buildings in colonial style. In the south of the city there is a working-class district and also many industrial enterprises. The architecture of the north of the city is modern, there are large banks, financial centers and department stores. There is also a huge amusement park, "Vulcano Park," one of the largest amusement parks in South America.
Climate
There is a mountain-equatorial climate in Quito. In the course of year, the average temperature stays at about 14 Celsius degrees, but the average daily temperature variations are enough large. The rainy season lasts from September to May.Transport
The international airport Mariscal Sucre is situated in the north of Quito . In 2005, there was run an aerotram line that delivers all comers to the volcano Pichincha.
